Are there any records for people that have changed their name?As I have a James T Diston born 1860, his mother remarried and he is gone but a George T Roberts is there, born 1860 granted this could be the real Son of Mr. Roberts but.............. jennifer..

Quite often when mothers remarried there children took on the name of the step father. Do you have any reason to think he is the father? Was she a single mother or married before? There would be no record of a change of name. Even today you can call yourself what you want.

Yes, that is them, but there were two James' one born 1860 and one born the year his father died 1865 and one is missing but the Robert George was born 1860 so it was suggested maybe they changed his name.............jennifer. plus Tindale was her maiden name and that is James middle name - James Tindale Diston

remember some times they Got ages wrong on census or have you got cert refs for them? Jeanette

No, no certs-just seems strange person gone missing-regardles of age have been told they had three children, two names James, which I find strange, but second James was so named as his Father died apparently. jennifer.

I think this will remain a mystery, or if I stop looking for him he may just turn up.

Gets stranger by the second-we will ever know? Perhaps he did not like his step Dad and went to live with other family members but he would only have been young-maybe he is the George T Roberts mentioned - I really cannot make head nor tail of it - unless there is another marriage recorded for G. Roberts before he married Isabella or I suppose he could be his younger brother or nephew-am I grasping at straws now?
