Thanks very much for your time Angela, very much appreciated. I'm not sure about Liverpool but I'll look at it as a possibility. Pam

The census image definitely says Clara. There is one other possible marriage in the Liverpool district in the September Qtr of 1900 - Ellen Clara Sims. Perhaps this is her and she used her second name? Other than that perhaps her name was Caroline but Clara was a nickname?

I can't seem to find them in 1901 on Ancestry. Maybe they are mistranscribed. Do you know Thomas's year of birth? Perhaps Caroline's name is mistranscribed. If I can find them I will look at the image.

I know, sounds daft now but when I saw Thomas, Clara and Emily on 1901 I just precsumed Emily was Clara's daughter and Thomas had been misbehaving....Thomas & Annie had 2 children a lot earlier..1881 & 1883 Pam

This may be a daft question but if Emily was born in 1894 and the first wife didn't die until 1898, why do you think that the second wife was Emily's mother?

What was the name of his first wife, and when was Emily born?

My 2 x great grandfather (Thomas G H Hesketh) lost his 1st wife (my 2 x great grandmother) in 1898. I found him on the 1901 census with Clara (wife) and Emily (daughter). I sent off for Emily's birth cert thinking that his 2nd wife Clara was her mum. She isn't, his 1st wife was. I have tried to look for a marriage for him between 1895-1905 and the only one I can find in the right area is in 1899 to Caroline Hulme. Could Clara be Caroline? Any suggestions please.. Thank you.....Pam
