I have found 2 possible dates in BMD for marriages, is the only option to buy both certificates? As they are Oct- Dec 1899 and the other Jun 1893 they say spouses names were not recorded that early. refs are for Charles McCARTHY refs 8b 13 and 8b 328. Come on you experts out there!! Lynne

If you know the name that the bride should have, you can certainly check for a matching entry in her name for each one, but if you only know her first name you have to hope FreeBMD is complete for that quarter. Kate.

No, I have a better idea now I realise it is Lancashire. You can get them from Lancashire BMD. Back in a minute... Kate.

If you want to make sure you buy the right cert you can ask for a check on something you do know, such as groom's father's name for example. GRO will charge £3 to check. Alternatively, you can probably ask the local register office to send you the right one - but as both marriages were before 1901 can't you check on the census? nell

on BMD it said something about spouses names not entered before this date? I have searched on Annie alone and both together and get no match. These searches are just on Charles
