Paul Report 19 Nov 2005 16:29

Hi all, I am new to all this and have hit a major dead-end quite early in my research. Unfortunately none of my living relatives know the names of my Great grandparents. I thought of ordering my Grandfathers birth certificate or Marriage certificate but I do not know the date/place etc. All help will be greatly appreciated. Paul Mawson

Thanks for the quick reply. Well my Grandfather was called John Thomas Mawson and he was born in Seaton Delaval, his date of birth was 16/04/1908 - he died in 2000. My Grandmothers name was Florence May Mawson - Nee Whitehead. I am unsure of where she was born but the date of birth is 15/03/1910. Her Father was Called George Wilson Whitehead and her mother was called Jane / Jayne(not sure of spelling) Whitehead - nee Prudhoe. It is the Mawson side of the family which is stumping me most, as none of the living members can help me.

Paul There is a John Thomas Mawson registered in Tynemouth, Northumberland in June quarter 1908. Page 341 Volume number 10b Thats the only one ancestry is coming up with, if thats the nearest reg district to Seaton Delaval could be his birth. June quarter would include April births as is April May and June. What do you think?

Hi Paul firstly you grandmother was born in Tynemouth this is her birth reference. Births Mar 1910 WHITEHEAD Florence May Tynemouth 10b 283 You could really do with sending for both your grandparents birth certificates because these will give you their parents names and then we can find them in 1901 census and so on. Georgina.

Paul it is the number at the end of the name, for Florences it would be 10b-283. Georgina.

Paul The least information you will need for this is as follows:- Name of person your looking for, Year, District, Quarter, Vol and Page Number. You don't have to put the parents names if you don't know them. Joy

Now that I have a date of birth which predates 1901, is it possible to start using the cuensus(s) to gather further info?

Yes Paul it is. If you get certs would have fathers occupation so may make it a bit easier to find them unless they changed occupation.

Paul Georgina has found your gg grandmother on 1901 - use this to go back to 1891 to see if it throws up your gg grandfather. You've been lucky with the info above as you have your gg grandmother, 2 of the sons, 1 daughter and her husband and 2 children! Good Luck Debby
