I'm getting confused here. Are we talking about Rootsweb or Rootschat? As far as I know the Rootsweb message boards are the same ones that are on ancestry, is that right? And you choose what surname board or location board you want. Then if you want to search that board, you enter your search word(s) and choose 'general board' or whatever it says rather than 'all boards'. Or if you don't know what board you want, search 'all boards'. But as far as I know rootschat is totally separate, so I don't know why it is being mentioned on here too? Kate.

I've never tried using Rootsweb, but perhaps the solution is to include a unique (and memorable/systematic) made-up word in your header so that it becomes something you can search for, using Google! Christine

Thank you. I will try that. This morning I could not get the search to do anything but report an error, but perhaps it will work now. Hilary

Is there any way of finding another person's posts on Rootschat if you do know their boardname? I wanted to check back to something that I had seen earlier on another thread, but could not remember the title.

Heather.......I have only ever understood these GR boards and also The Peerage.com which is the same as here, though not quite so easy..... I have never achieved even reading a thread on Rootsweb, as I always seem to click on the wrong thing and never see the answers to a question someone has posted.....by the time I have found the reply, I have forgotten what the person asked! As for actually posting on it.........totally beyond me I'm afraid .....!! merry

I did that aswell and ended up with half a dozen page marked but I still cant find the one I want! Then I think right, England, county Lincolnshire, name Wyles but I just cant get back to it. Oh well, I did find my glasses in the fridge the other day. And I did look up a birth three times for someone - then I caught on Id done it before! So they must be more confused than me.

Absolutely agree. Gave up trying to find a message I'd put on previously. But then, I am definitely old and confused!

Does everyone else find Rootsweb really complicated to navigate. Earlier I managed to find a query I had put on there, Ive now gone back and spent 20 minutes going through all the board variations and cannot find it for the life of me.
