Joy, If you go to the search page on FreeBMD, then click Main Page at the bottom....then click View Images....you can view the GRO index pages for most years and event types even when they are not transcribed. There are some boxes to fill in to tell the system what you want to see. The downside is it is much slower that paying to view, but you can save yourself some pennies if you have the time (and are not on dial up pay per minute!!). Also, the images are sometimes not so clear as on other sites, but if you can't read one you can always look that one up on 1837, or whatever.... Merry |

Hiya Joy!! Have looked for your elusive Charlotte and noticed that on 1871 census she was born in Aisthorpe, Notts. But I found out that Aisthorpe is actually in Lincolnshire! I had the same problem as you, couldnt find one of my ancestor's marriage/maiden name - so just put her christian name in and the place she was born and methodically went through every census pre marriage until I found her!! ;o)) Kim X |

People who married in the two or three years immediately before 1866 generally do not appear on the GRO indexes transcribed by FreeBMD or Ancestry (there is a ''black hole'' at this time frame!) Have you done any searching on any of the pay-per-view sites, or viewed any non transcribed pages on FreeBMD? Merry |

Around 1865ish. First child is Frederick J Mellors born c1865 in Car Colston, Nottinghamshire. Bingham District covers Car Colston, but I've found nothing there. Charlotte was born in Owethorpe, Nottinghamshire. Don't know what district would cover that though. Joy |

My GG-Grandfather's brother, Thomas Mellors, married a lady by the name of Charlotte. Have trawled through 1837online and Ancestry and have not been able to find the marriage. They could have married anywhere as they seem to move around the England a fair bit. All I would like is a surname for her. Anyone got any ideas? Joy |
