The details of Lucy aged 9 in 1861 and Laura aged 19 in 1871 look like a good match. Perhaps Lucy was a pet name or she was Laura Lucy Morris. Why did you say Laura was an older sibling who would have been 10 in 1861 - 19 minus 10 is definitely 9? do you have them together on the same census somewhere?

I am of the same thinking as Janice - that Lucy is Laura.

jeanette I found that marriage as well. This is the John Morris I've been tracking. The only thing that threw me was him having a sister who can't be found in 61! It seems weird that she isn't at home when all the others are. If I have the right family she must be mistranscribed but I can't find her. Thanks for your help anyway. Carole xx

Janice, yes you have the right family. Parents William and Mary. In 71 John has married a Sarah, has a daughter Edith aged 1. Laura is described as his sister. I just can't find her in 61 with the rest of the family so don't know if I'm on the right track. Carole xx

Jess The head is John Morris. Laura Morris is listed as his sister, but she isn't with the family (John was at home with parents then) in 1861. Can't find her anywhere. Carole

I couldn't find Laura in the 71 but there's a 9 year old Lucy in the 61, Could they be the same person mistranscribed? Janice

could she be a brothers wife? what is her relationship to the head (bear in mind it may not be correct anyway!)

I'm researching a Morris family from Paddington Middx. John Edward Morris born abt 1848 is with his family in 61 census. In 71 I may have found him married to Sarah with a daughter Edith aged 1. The problem is he also has a sister living with him Laura Morris aged 19. She isn't with the family in 1861. I've searched the census to see if she is with a relative somewhere, but can't find her at all. I don't know if I have the right family now with not being able to tie her in. Carole xx
