Chris in Sussex Report 28 Dec 2005 16:14

Kelly Maybe she was brought up by Mr Keough and looked on him as her father, hence why he is named on the marriage certificate....Registrar asks for Father's name and she gives the name of her 'Father' Or, just as likely, she didn't know Mr K wasn't her real father and her mother hid the secret of her illegitmacy. But...As Suzy has said....Add dates and maybe someone can help you further :) Chris >>Dates added as I was typing :)

Kelly You need to get hold of a copy of her birth certificate. This will tell you if her mother was married or not. Sounds like she was only half sister to her siblings. Pauline

presumably her mother married mr keough after she was born?

Suzy Report 28 Dec 2005 16:21

Kelly This looks like it could be her: Whitehouse Jane (Whitehouse) Walsall.6b 1436 Birth 3 1913 The name in brackets is the Mother's maiden name, which suggests she was born out of wedlock. Looks like her parents married about a year later: Keough Patrick J Whitehouse Alice M Walsall.6b 1486 Marriage 4 1914 Hope that helps. Suzy

The Bag

The Bag Report 28 Dec 2005 16:23

only her birth cert will tell you if Patrick is her father though

Suzy

Suzy Report 28 Dec 2005 16:24

Good point about the Father, Jess. Although, even if he is her Dad, if they were unmarried, I bet the name is blank. Suzy

The Bag

The Bag Report 28 Dec 2005 16:27

do you have Alice and Patricks parents names? there are 16 Alice M whitehouse in staffs in 1901 census - and that is only guessing she was raised in staffs

Suzy

Suzy Report 28 Dec 2005 16:29

I think you send off for their marriage certificate too; that will hopefully give lots of useful info. Suzy

As Jane appears in the index as Jane WHITEHOUSE mothers maiden name WHITEHOUSE either both mother and father had the same surname or no father is named on her birth certificate. Only the child's christian name(s) are entered in the child's name section of the certificate and the surname on the index is taken from the father's name if given, and if not from the mother's name.
