Hello Giz - the first child was born 1873 in Bishop Auckland, second 1876, and then subsequent children in Leeds. I am going round in circles here!!. I have to go now, but will be back tomorrow. Thank you both for your help so far. xxx |

Sally Have you seen William & Jane in any of the census? If so, it might be worth seeing when their kids were born (if they had any) and then working backwards from there. It might help to narrow down the area too, you can look at where the kids were born and that might give clues as to where they've been living. |

It wasn't really narrowing it down Rachel - they were the only likely 3!! William was living in Bishop Auckland and Jane in Stockton, Durham He was born 1847 so the date of marriage is rather a rough guess. Oh well, back to the drawing board. xxxx |

Sally if you know the qtr, vol & page no or even just the district you can search on FreeBMD without putting in peoples names. It can prove very handy to search that way! |

Sorry but option 3 hasn't any Janes either: Marriages Mar 1868 Chaytorn Elizabeth Auckland 10a 203 Cooper William Auckland 10a 203 Pears Bartholomew Auckland 10a 203 SIDDLE Ann Auckland 10a 203 How did you manage to narrow it down to the 3 options? |

Option 2 only gives one groom and one bride and so your Jane might be there, just not transcribed yet on FreeBMD. The 2 names transcribed so far are: Marriages Jun 1867 Brown Julia Auckland 10a 269 COOPER William Auckland 10a 269 |

I normally try not to ask for help, but I am struggling. Thanks to Babs I have three possible options for my g. grandfather and the info is as follows: William Cooper born 1847 in Bishop Auckland Possible marriage data l. 1866 (Oct - Dec) 10a page 78 (best option 2. 1867 (April-June) 10a page 269 3. Either 10,16 or 18a page 203 The first one is the most likely. Does anybody have a way of finding out whether 'Jane' was the marriage partner. Otherwise I shall have to order all three certs. Thank you in advance, and although I am only here from time to time, I will thank anyone with any information profusely when I next come on!! xx |
