Anyone born 2nd qtr. 1949 - if your surname doesn't start with H or J then you weren't born. Before anyone starts telling me 'it's free' , NO IT IS NOT, we're paying for it. What ever it costs (they set the charges) it should be RIGHT. If it costs more to make it right, then they should charge more. I hate being conned. M. Steer

Do you know for sure your birth was registered in the same quarter that you were born. Look in the next quarter. Sue

Well said, However i still think it is better to have more info than before, plus now you can access the original entry as you do on 1837 online, apposed to someone else's interpretation. Roy

Margaret, I've just reread your post. I just tried Smiths and they seem to be there in QE Jun 1949. As I've said on other posts, because of the mistranscriptions you sometimes have to slightly amend the name you are searching for. Its annoying but once you've worked out how to get past it it's fine. Hopefully the errors will get sorted out in time.

I have to say that I haven't seen anything to say that I have been or will be charged any extra for the new ancestry services. Have I missed something? If you want to pay for the records seperately, you can use familyrelatives. They are complete and deal only with BMD. Complaints could be justified if they have it wrong. Poor Ancestry takes some knocks, but it is by far and away the most valuable online resource I have come across. If it wasn't for them, I would have never been able to get as far as I have without spending a colossal amount of time and money. Ian

well I was born & married... I do know there are some pages missing though. Looking for a marriage in the early 1920's, the right pages were missing when I did the search. I went in via browse year/quarter/letter & there are definitely some pages missing as the page numbers are not consecutive. Very annoying as it was the same letters (Hai..) for 3 consecutive quarters! And I was also looking for a death but the search brought me back one page of births for that quarter instead - definitely not me as it was a 5 year search & the other years had the deaths pages!! At least it narrows down the periods to pay to look at 1837.

I may not have expressed myself very well - I think Ancestry is worth every penny, I wouldn't have got as far as I have without it. However, maybe they've just overstretched themselves! Myself, my brother and sister were all born in the 1940's. I've found my brother - but myself and my sister don't appear to have been born. I would rather, Ancestry said they had (and did have)25% accurate , than imply that they had 100% accurate. (which they obviously don't). As I said before, I don't like being conned. M. Steer
