Yes- Once you get their parents you will probably be back pre-1901 and you can start on census info. If not, wedding certificates usually give father's names and occupations which helps. I have 3 possibles for your Dennis Hobbs: All registered June Quarter, 1927. Denis - mother's maiden name Ware - born Uxbridge 3a 105 Dennis mothers m.n. Porter born Farnham 2a 252 Dennis G mothers m.n. Gosling born Kingston 2a 716 Are any of those areas near to where you think he was born? Dea x |

I think I found my mothers birth cert record, I have ordered a copy online. but cannot find anything on my father Dennis Hobbs 07/03/1927, I think he was born in west the London area, I am looking for the birth certificates as I think it is a good place to start, ie to find grandparents names etc. What do you think? |

O.K. Colin, You have, I think - 3 choices: 1 - Ancestry - pay for view or 1 year subscription - If you are serious about genealogy Ancestry is a 'must' - about £70 for a year's membership but gives you all the bmd + census 1851 - 1901 + 1841 is soon to come. 2. 1837 online - You buy credits and can search all the bmd's - 1837 to date. 3. Family relatives - again pay to view but very good fr 1922 onwards. Let me know if you need any further info. Dea. p.m. me if you wish. |

Colin You're best bet is to go to ancestry(.)co(.)uk and search the England & Wales BMD Index (thats if they were born in either England or Wales! You could register a birth up to 6 weeks after the event and the index is compliled into qtrs, so if the birth happened on 31st March say then it's likely to be registered in the QE Jun of that yearbut it happened on 3rd March it could be registered in either the QE March or June of that year. Hopefully your parents have middle names and not too common surnames! Otherwise you might find a couple of entries that would match. Hope this helps Rachel |

O.K. - I admire the fact that you want to do it yourself but give me some clues so I can point you in the right direction. What sort of date are we looking at and which area? Dea |
