Hi I have just found out my Gt Grandfather joined the Army in 1871 and served until 1883 he was stationed in India,Uganda,South Africa,Majuba Hill and Maurities. Would this have been in the Boer War or some other conflict? Any help or advice would be appreciated. If times like this when I wish I had taken more notice in History lessons. Regards Cheryl |

The date of the first Boer war was from Dec. 1880 to March 1881. The second Boer War was from Oct. 1899 to May 1902. If you google 'first Boer War' there are quite a few results. Kath. x |

Do you know his regiment? If so you can go to the regiment.org site and can see where the regiment was at certain times. Look at this fab site: http://hometown*aol*co*uk/KevinAsplin/home*html replace the asterisks with full stops. |

Hi Keith Will give it a try. We now think that he could have still been in the army in the late 1880's. Cheryl |
