I know that GR have been updating their ‘export Gedcom’ system but has anyone else experienced difficulties with importing? I have done loads of work on my tree and wanted to import it onto GR; I got the pop-up box where you insert the name of your file, which I did, and then that was it. Nothing else happened! It says in the box that it might take a few minutes to upload if your file is large (mine’s about 500), but I’ve tried three times in the last 4 hours and it’s still not there. Just wanted to check whether it was me being dim before I complain to GR lol! Mandy :) |

Ive been having the same problem for 3 weeks now. Ive got 3000 names and want to import. Unfortunately I deleted my original. Ive complained to GR 3 times now, and absolutely nothing back. Is extremely annoying. |

Thanks for your replies. I'm glad that it's not me being dopey, or my pc, but of course sorry that you can't get your trees uploaded either. I'm not impressed that they are putting up subscriptions yet failing their paying customers with things like this. It's also unacceptable that GR are not responding to queries and problems either. Will put my Mrs Grumpy hat on tomorrow and complain like mad to them. Mandy :) |

Chris, thanks for that. Maybe I'll start out as Mrs Polite and then move on to Mrs Grumpy lol!! When you got the pop-up box where you put in the name of the file, what happened next? I got the blue bar and then 'done' but that was at the bottom, not inside the box, and it wasn't done after all. Mandy :) |

Trying to import a gedcom has almost driven me mad! After weeks of trying, I contacted GR and 'Estelle' eventually uploaded it for me. The next time that i wanted to import my larger file, I had the same problem again. The solution was to delete my tree completely, leaving only my name. I was scared stiff it wouldn't work but it did. Takes a little time though. |

Mandy Got the box.....Inputed the file from browse....Hit import. I then get a page saying something like.....Your import is being processed, please dont close this window until it is successful, use the main window to return to Genes in the meantime. That then changes to something like.....Your download is successful, you will receive an e.mail to confirm your tree is uploaded. Sorry I can't remember the exact wording for each stage but I hope you get my drift? Chris |

Mandy I imported 2 gedcoms on Tuesday. One for my tree, one for my husbands. It only took a few minutes. There was 1200 in his and more than that with mine. I didnt have any problems. I did delete the original one first though. Perhaps you should email GR and report the problem. Margaret |

They know all about the problem, and have done for months! If you use Firefox as your browser, try switching to Explorer to upload your Gedcom. This can work. I reported this some time ago to so called 'support' when I had the same problem - hit Upload and nothing happens. They told me to read the instructions, then suggested it wasn't them and I should contact my computer manufacturer's support.. I eventually managed to upload using my laptop, but have since uploaded again using my desktop, but with Explorer rather than Firefox |

Thanks everyone for your replies. Chris - thanks very much, that's helpful. I was getting the 'don't close this window' message but not the 'upload successful' that I should have got afterwards. I already use IE as my browser, not Firefox. I think I will risk deleting my tree first, and then uploading the new one, even though it says that you don't have to do this any more. Please all cross your bits for me! Thanks again, Mandy :) |

Ive had problems importing also. And am still having. Everything seemed to work ok, even got an email saying it had been uploaded and there was no errors. On checking, all that is left of my tree is my name and thats it. Dont know what else to do, ive tried half a dozen times and nothing. Ive email GR lets see how long it takes to get a reply(if i get one). Regards Cliff |

I am having different problems importing (see message regarding PAF). I was fortunate to have this happen just when my account with GR expired - they keep emailing me asking me to join up again - I just keep returning the email with the response not until they fix my problem! Hope all yours are resolved. Iain Macfarlane |
