Kate Thanks for that..... Dad was English, Mum Irish so I doubt if that would be classified as a birth of Irish parents :( I do appreciate your taking the time to think about it. Chris |

This is one of the categories of records that they have at the Irish GRO: 7. Registers of Births of children of Irish parents, certified by British Consuls abroad, from 1st January, 1864 to 31st December, 1921 . Can't see a similar category for marriages, though, unless perhaps this one: 10. Registers under the Births, Deaths and Marriages (Army) Act, 1879. Kate. |

Kate I haven't yet had to look for Irish Ancestors...GGrandmother will be the first if I ever find her maiden name...So I also don't know about Irish records, but I understand they are difficult :( As GGrandad married and Grandmother was born in Egypt I don't think they would show in Irish records..... But more than willing to be put right if someone knows different! Thanks Chris |

Lunar I have checked the normal Indices....No trace :(( You have my deep sympathy with regards to your Ireland Ancestry......I have a feeling that even if I do manage to get GGrandmother's maiden name I will just be building a new brick wall :( Good luck with yours. Chris |

Bev For determination read Pig Headiness :) After reading your story I feel grateful that at least my brick wall 'may' be broken down by spending money. If it was caused by family dispute I would be gutted.....I do feel for you and hope that one day you have a 'miracle moment' and your brick wall comes tumbling down. Good luck Chris |

You have my sympathy. But would they not be in the Irish overseas records, if such exist? Kate. |

May be a dumb question but have you tried looking in the normal index for the certificates? I have a cousin that was born in england and baptised in Greece. So you never know, anything can be possable. I do have an irish GGrandfather but without knowing his mothers name, pigs will fly before I can find his birth and confirm the names of his siblings - Unless I can find his army records but then he changes his name and I can't gurentee it is him. |

Chris, You have my full sympathy. I know exactly how you feel. I can only wish you luck and express my admiration for your determination. I have a grandmother born in Tipperary Ireland. Her parents - Patrick and Bridget Ryan. D.o.b? variable, by 15 years (Johanna gave different ages on her marriage cert., on the birth certs., for her sons, informant gave wrong age on death cert. ) She has the wrong given name on her grave stone. She quarrelled with her relatives and I've never met any of them -don't even have names to start looking. I've decided I will be content with 3 grandparents as I can't imagine where I might begin. Can I have a moan and maybe some sympathy??....I'm not asking for anyone to search for anything!!! GGrandfather's marriage and my Grandmother's birth are not in the GRO Overseas where they should be. Luckily I have Grandmother's Baptism Cert issued overseas but it only gives her Dad's name and I need Mum's maiden name to trace her line (Ireland... :((((( ) Ggrandfather's Army records are missing at Kew. Anyway after taking a break I have contacted the relevant Embassy and the cost for each entry, if they have them, is...... £41 not including any costs for searching outside a specific year. Ok I knew when I took up this hobby/obsession it wouldn't be cheap but I keep thinking that it is alot of £7s Anyway I have no choice, I will have to go ahead otherwise I will never get back further than GGrandmother Mary ? born Ireland. Mind you I may not get anywhere even with her maiden name :( Moan over and I feel a little better now :) Chris |
