As John was born in September, he would have been registered either in the Sep or Dec quarter of 1893. But of course there may well be lots of John Coopers born in those quarters. Do you have any other information - do you know John's father's name, we might be able to find him on the census. nell |

If you know any of his parents names or siblings, you might be able to find him on the 1901 census, from that you'll find out where he born, hopefully and then you'll be able to track down his birth cert. Nothings ever that straightforward tho! |

Do you have the name of his mother/father? If so that would confirm it was the correct John Cooper. Mother's maiden name? |

I have got the marriage cert dated 1918 and his age was 24. My grandfather tells me his birthdate was '08/09/XXXX he remembers his birthday but knows little more about him. his occupation says 'private royal defence corps' on the cert He married a florence bell smart. |

What, according to John's marriage cert, is John's father's occupation? |

If you know his full name, his date and place of birth, and his father's name, then I believe that you can request the GRO to do find his certificate on that basis. It'd cost more than the standard £7, though. Alternatively, if you have a small number of possible index entries, you could order certs for each, specifying a reference check. That works out around £3 per incorrect cert plus £7 for the right one. |
