Hello, thanks for the replies everyone. They were Jewish. And unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a Polish BMD site, I've even got in contact with the Polish Consulat and they weren't very helpful either, just gave a search enigine link with possible results. I may have to visit the country, which sounds extreme, but it's becoming more and more likely. Kirsten |

Depends who gave the information at death. One of mine was only 54 when he died for sure, I have his birth record and age at census. His death certificate and headstone state 69. I would guess that the age of 17 on 1901 is more likely to be correct . Nearly all my rellies were 21 when they married, saved messing about with parental consent I suppose. Ellen X |

If she was Jewish, you could try the JewishGen website: www.jewishgen.org/ They've got family trees and other databases you could try. nell |

Kirsten Have you made any enquiries about information on births in Poland or Russia? Are there any websites equivalent to our England and Wales ones? Suzy |

Yeah, I think I printed it off somewhere, and it says she was 17. I'm back to square one again. Dang! |

Not sure if you have seen the actual census page, but, for what it's worth, on the actual page she is 17. Merry |

Feqw things you have to consider. Calculate the date of birth according to the DATE of the 1901 Census; calculate the date of birth according to the DATE of marriage - you may then find a one year range to work on. Don't forget that in the case of the Census and death it may not have been the person you named who gave the information to the enumerator; in the case of marriage the date may have been fabricated by the lady for her own reasons as are the addresses the couple give. Marriage certs also often show the father as (deceased) - well that saves awkward questions doesn't it ? Only real date can be found on the birth cert of whichever country she came from - and I guess you have problems in obtaining this. |

Ages never surprise me now. Ive just been trawling for the birth of a Mary Ann Groves who appears born 1841, 1842, on her marriage just of full age, next census born 1849 and last one she was alive, 1848. I reckon the fact the groom was 9 years younger has made the difference in the age! |

Yeah, possible, from trawling through the BMD's her husband wasn't alive when she died. Aside from her children and my grandfather, no one else was alive to record her death. However I think on Ancestry she was 19 on their 1901 census, on 1901censusonline she was 17. |

I'd say 1882-1884 was most accurate. the person that told her age on her death cert may not have known. of course she may have said she was 21 when she married, in order to get married without parental consent |

Hello, I need alittle help sorting this out. My great great aunt Genia Maliniak seems to have had three different years of birth. On the 1901 census she was 17, making her date of birth 1884. On her marriage certificate in 1903 she was 21 - this time her date of birth being 1882. And just now I've found her death in 1949, giving her age as 63, so that would mean she was born in 1886! The census may not be 100% acccurate as they weren't English, plus 1886 is the year her younger brother was born, so I'm ruling that out. But her marriage and death? That's a difference of 4 years! The name isn't very common so I know I haven't got the wrong person. So what do I do? Which year is the most reliable? Thank you. Kirsten |
