Hi Everyone: I sent to GRO for a birth cert. for my Gt. Grandmother and also her wedding cert. I received the wedding cert. but not the birth. I had the Pg. and Vol. No. and was refunded GBP 4.00. They didn't say why they couldn't find it. Does anyone know why it was not sent? Many thanks for your help. Shiela |

Did you send some extra checking points? Perhaps they found the father's name was different to the one you wanted checked. That happened to me a couple of times. They charge for looking but refund part of the money if it is not the correct person. |

Maybe they saw from the Wedding cert that the fathers didn't match-but then you'd think they'd phone first. |

There will be a difference between the details you provided and the ones on the cert. I doubt they would check the marriage cert with the birth cert, they don't have time and quite likely the birth certs and marriage certs are produced in different places at the GRO. nell |

Where did you get the GRO number from? Could it be that the GRO details were mistranscribed and that's why they couldn't find it? |

If you apply to the office where the birth was registered and give them the registration details and father's name if you have it,if the details don't match they give you a full refund. |

Did you order it over the net? If so they would have sent you an e.mail cofirming the refund and advising why the cert wasn't issued. Chris |

Hi Everyone: Thanks for your replies. I got the Nos. from 1837 Online, they were 10b 261. It could have been 761 and was in Belford, Ntm. Her name was Martha Dixon Forsyth and thats what they had. I did receive an e-mail from the GRO saying I was getting a refund but it didn't say why. I did e-mail them and was sent back an automated reply becuase they are so busy. They said to put in G O or something like that and I would receive a reply. I just got the automated letter again. I would have thought they would have looked at 76l? I am sure this is her as the name is not common. Shiela |

Sheila They will look at the page number you give. If it doesn't match up with the cert they won't spend time wondering which of a possible 3 digits could be something else and then check them - unless you tell them at the time you can't read the page and give them an alternative. nell |
