Annette Generally other folk find things more easily partly because they are more experienced, but mainly because its always easier to find other people's relatives, than one's own. Its a genealogical law. nell

Hi everyone I am really puzzled how the wonderful people on this site manage to respond so quickly-after searching for 3 hours on Ancestry anf Family Search i find nothing but post it on the board and get an answer within a couple of minutes. Is there a magic way to do a search like this or am i just thick!!!!' Annette

Phoenix Report 22 Feb 2006 00:07

Hi Annette The sad truth is that his birth may not have been registered. If you have his father's name from a marriage certificate you might be able to find the family on the census in 1841 and then look for a siblings birth. Or try for a baptism entry on the IGI. It wasn't until 1875 that you were fined if you didn't register a birth. A good many of my ancestors born in the 1840s are not in the GRO indexes.
