Well done folks ! how do you find 'em ? I'm that busy looking for a 'particular' name, I don't notice others ! (Blinkers) This reminds me of the thread that was around at Christmas - I thought it was fascinating, with Father Christmas and his family. Keep it up x Elaine ;-)

With reference to Napoleon, probably the name was given in honour of Napoleon III, who was friendly to Britain, but was involved in war with Prussia, defeated , and died in UK in 1873. Probably, this was the shift from France as enemy to Britain, to France as ally against Germany. In the Crimean War, Lord Raglan ordered his artillery to fire on the French. 'Sir, the French are our allies!'. 'Are they, by God? Then who on earth are we fighting?' Also, Napoleon III led social reforms, such as granting the right to strike. He was known as a socialist on horseback, we would say a 'Jaguar Socialist'

I've got a Napoleon Atkins. Can't have been particularly politically correct in the late 1800's! My sister has challenged me to call my first born son Napoleon after him! (I've agreed, but only if she calls her son 'Hubert' - another horrendous family name!)

Ouch!! I found quite an exotic one today (well, it makes a change from Mary, Elizabeth, Thomas and George!) - Drusilla Faircloth.
