What a lovely story. I clicked on it when I saw the name Bradbury as I just found some Cousins of that name on my Mother's side. I don't know anything about them except that the male was named Tom and had a little corner shop in Cardiff, Wales. I won't waste a lot of time digging as they are not close rellies but I will keep them in my private family tree. Audrey in Canada |

Thanks Jane, I can't wait to hear the outcome - I know how happy I would be if it was my family. Janet did a brilliant job as she took it one step further. As the Bradburys are GR members and have an interest in family history I'm sure they will be ecstatic. Kathleen |

Kathleen & Janet, This is just marvellous news - I'm all goosey too!!!! It just goes to show what a bit of detective work can achieve - and why we should press on with our work with some urgency. Clearly, Janet, you had a 'vibe' about it and followed her 6th sense - well done. Well done too, Kath, for posting this in the first place. You will probably have brought some real pleasure to a bunch of descendants. Onwards and upwards! Jane |

I'm in contact with his grandson! The baby his wife was expecting is still alive and he survived the war. Both of us have e-mailed the Beeb and await Monday when hopefully someone will get back to us. |

I was also listening this morning and have messaged someone on this site who appears to have the family in his tree. (Did a bit of digging on ancestry) Charles does NOT appear on the CWGC. I will let you know the outcome. |

I heard this on radio 4 Home Truths this morning, a mother’s letter sent to her soldier son in 1917 and his reply, which was never posted to her. It refers to an expected baby who would now be 87 years old. The lady who has the letters would like to be able hand them to the young soldier’s descendents as part of their history. The letters are quite sad Contact can be made through BBC radio 4 home truths web page. See below Kathleen. Valerie Skinner called David from her home in France to tell him about some very old letters which she discovered after moving into a farmhouse in the Loire Valley. Valerie now wants to trace this young soldier's living relatives. His name is Charles E. Bradbury and his regiment was the West Lancashire Reserves 23, Market Street, Carnarvon, North Wales. His home address was 158, Thatto Heath Road, St. Helens. He had brothers called Harry and Edgar. |
