just tried again and if you click on Edit next to the persons name then Index then Options there is a box for a reference number which you could probably use

I too have FTM2005, and I don't have that either. Mine seems to be the same as Perranmaid says. Maybe I'm going mad too !!!!!!! Kath. x

Sorry both but I do not appear to have the same 'more about' capability that you both have. In family view the button to the right of the individual is sources/citations. From the tool bar view tab dropdown the 4th item is web search results. I have looked I think everywhere for the lineage section and cannot find it anywhere!! Is it me going mad????????? or just being stupid???

I am using the 2005 edition too. Go to view. The fourth one down is 'more about'. The arrow at the end of the words should show new options ie: facts, address, medical, lineage, notes. Choose lineage. This will open the lineage section. You can then change the given reference number. You can also access this from the 'more' box beside each persons name on the family page. Hope this helps Teresa

Hi Perranmaid There are 2 ways to bring up the ''Lineage'' page: either from the ''view'' menu along the top (select ''View'', then ''more about'', then ''lineage''), or you can simply click on the ''More'' button next to the person's name, then click on the ''Lineage'' button on the right-hand side. I am using an older version of FTM (v11) which was the version before 2005 - but I don't think that it changed that much between the 2 versions. However, maybe someone with the 2005 version can confirm that the Lineage page is still accessed as described above? Cheers, Richard

Richard sorry for the delay just got in thankyou for your response. I have had a quick look but I cannot find a 'more about' label. I am working with FTM 2005 english edition, does that make a difference as to where I should look please?

You can set a reference number for each individual from the ''Lineage'' page (from the ''View'' menu, select ''more about'', then ''Lineage''). By default, FTM automatically assigns a reference number to each individual but you can turn this off (and therefore enter your own ref numbers) from ''File'', ''Preferences'' then click on the ''Reference numbers'' tab. Oh good, I'm glad it worked for you. Heather :-)

Thanks for that Heather, just given it a try and whilst it comes up with silly warnings it will work for what I am trying to do.

I think you could probably enter a number after the name if you wished. You would have a little box appearing saying you had an illegal symbol but if you click ok, I think it would be accepted........hopefully. Heather
