Just adding my boatmen to this collection. They are called WOODELL and worked on the Grand Union Canal.

hi, i also have watermen, wherrymen in family they are the Darbys Gt. Yarmouth , Norfolk Sandy.

I also have 'watermen' in the family - Cowley and Stockton's from the Northwich area of Cheshire Angie

Mine are WOOD's from Elland, Yorkshire, - Hulme, Manchester, and Rochdale. Dea x

Glen I wish, my Warren family were on the canals and the youngest daughter married a Ward but they didn't work the canals. I am looking for Warrens Northampton and Leicester Powell in Leicester ? from Sheffield Pinfold Northampton Just in case !!! Elaine

Anyone with connections to a family called Ward,linked to the Grand Union Canal? I have 'inside info' into many of the family,some boat names associated with births and family members. Some of the family feature quite heavily in some canal books and are pictured not only within the book but also on the covers. Glen

A programme called Waterworld is shown in the East Midlands region and features past and modern times with regards to the canals. There is some great old black and white footage in the series showing working boats and families and now if you have satellite/cable and can get Discovery Real Time, you will find it on late Wednesday night (not sure what series it is ). There are repeats but this is the slot I found first. I have actually been in touch with the researcher who is featured in the programme as she is heavily researching the canals and collecting info with regards to families Hope it's useful to someone Good luck Elaine
