So thats definitely Baguley IN Mossley.I looked at A-Z,and could only find that road name, but it might be an idea to ask if anyones going to central library, and see if they can look at an old map from the year on your certificate-it wouldn't put anyone to too much trouble the Archive staff are dead helpful there and would get the right one out.It might even be on the computer. |

Hi Lisa Just had a thought...he was born 1891? Was he was born just before the census, then you can see what info is on there for the districts and subdistricts etc. I know they are different from the BMD districts but it might help? Suzanne |

Hi Suzanne, I did try googling it as well, the maps are very difficult to read, ideally someone that lives close by would be .......lovely! Lisa |

Hi Lisa From Googling found this: Until the nineteenth century, Mossley didn't have a seperate identity to that of Ashton, neither was the town within one county, being made up of parts Lancashire, Yorkshire, and Cheshire. The three largest churches in Mossley mark them:- St. Georges being Lancashire St John the Baptist's, Yorkshire. All Saint's, Cheshire. You might find out more by googling. Suzanne |

Hi Suzanne I echo your thoughts, I understand the birth was registered in Saddleworth but when it arrived with all the other places, I now wonder if it's the right certificate? |

Well all I know is that Ashton Under Lyne is in Lancashire I think???? So is Mossley and Baguley I think???? so not sure where the uppermill, York comes into it? Boundaries were forever changing throughout the century. Suzanne |

OOhh help please! I'm looking for a rellie born Mossley in 1891 census, 1901 he has no place of birth, 1905 married in Heywood Lancs, After searching through all births in surrounding area, I finally think I have the right certificate but place of birth is Baguley, Mossley, Sub district of Uppermill In County of York. Is this close to Mossley Ashton Under Lyne or the one and the same? My brain is very very confused! Thanks Lisa |
