In 1861 Thomas Phillips was living with his young wife Ann, and his Uncle Henry in West Brom Staffs. I know at the time of the wedding, a baby was on the way, but I cannot find a marriage for this pair. I know there is a Thomas Phillips and an Ann Hains on bmd, but according to the reg office this Thomas Phillips did not marry Ann Hains. Can anybody find a Thomas and Ann marriage in Staffs

Where was Ann born, Lynda? Have you tried westmidlands bmd and staffordshire bmd? Heather

This may be a stupid question, but can you please explain how you know there was a baby on the way when they got married if you haven't found their marriage? Kate.

Lynda did they have children? If you can get one of the childrens birth certs. It will give you their mothers name. Georgina.

This is the only one I could find on Staffordshire BMD, but probably not the right one: Staffordshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1855 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference PHILLIPS Thomas THOMPSON Ann Stoke, St Peter Stoke-On-Trent 31/11/012 None on West Midlands BMD, which includes West Bromwich though I'm not sure if it is complete for all West Bromwich marriages in that period. As has been suggested above, you really need to get the birth certificate of one of the children to find out Ann's maiden name. Also, it could be that Ann was just her middle name but she was known as Ann! Kate.

many thanks for the replies. I thought there might be a baby on the way because of their ages, on 1861 censu, and the eldest child age on the following census 1871-1881. As far as I know Thomas & Ann were both born in staffs, and so were their children. I always thought Ann was her given christian name, I am not sure about mary-ann harris.Their daughter Martha is my g Grandmother, and Ann is living with her on the 1901 census. sorry for the late reply, i am looking after my 5 wk old granddaughter, so I am barely awake!!

Okay, she could in theory have married that young, but it is very very unlikely! Kate.
