Catherine Sorry - couldn't let this lie... Just a thought. Your Margaret's birth is registered in Prestwich. First thought is how far away from Prestwich is Gorton? Never been to Manchester myself! Reason I ask is that I have just found a Hinchcliffe family on the 1901 at 42 Oxford Street Gorton. Dad is Herbert, Mum is Elizabeth and they have a three month old daughter (which would be about right if the census was taken in April - someone will post the census date I'm sure. This entry is very badly indexed and daughter's name on the index and the original image appears to be Harris! Any thoughts? Sheila Back to work now! |

I have to admit Im stumped - Ive even looked at Margarets born in 1901 but not come up with her. If you have the birth reg she has to be there!! I got quite excited when I found a wife called Margaret in Manchester, thought must be her, but nope, no baby Margaret on the image. I wonder if she is with relatives and has been added under their name? Sorry couldnt find her for you but once you get that certificate it should become clearer. |

Have looked at the 1901 census and cannot see a Margaret Hinchcliffe among the Margarets born in Lancashire between 1900 and 1902. All I can find is Margaret Ellen Hinchliffe born March 22nd 1902 - died Liverpool June Quarter 1976? Boss on holiday this week so if there is more information that might help to locate her for you.... Sheila |

Hi Ian Sorry. I thought you were being sarcastic. I don't know much about her. She died in 1976 when I was 10.So I thought if I could look at ther on the census, then I can send for the cert. I do have the ref number. Thanks Catherine |

Catherine, sorry if you took my post the wrong way, but i was pointing out that although your original thread says jan quarter, the date of birth meant that they should be on the 1901 census. plus do you know, was there any older brothers or sisters |

DOB 12= day 1=month 1901=year as i read your thread, so the date you have is the 12th of january in the year 1901. last time i looked that date was before march 1901 |

Well its not the January QUARTER, its the Jan/Feb/March quarter so could be actually registered up to 6 weeks after her birth date. But will have a look. What are the details re parents name, address etc please. |

I have found my grandma's birth index she was registered in the Jan qtr 1901.her dob was 12/1/1901. Why can't I find her on the 1901 census. If the census was done end of March then she should be there surely. |
