My Nan was born in 1913 and her parents married in 1893! As far as I know my Nan was their first child, she got a brother a couple of years later. Perhaps it took them a long time to work out what to do? |

Well, my great-aunt had her last child when she was 42, and she got married when she was 20! Really, if you think that a child can be born in the mother's forties, and she could have got married at about 20, you might have to cover about 25 years looking for the marriage. Unless you know when at least one of the parents was born, of course. Kate. |

Thats what I am trying to find out Christian names so that I can work back. I know the McCormack (nee Sandles) lady died in Chatham within the past 10 years but nothing on Ancestry so presume she must of remarried? |

Do you know anything about the parents?? If you have their names maybe you could try looking for their deaths. Then you would know their ages and would know roughly how far before the first birth it's worth searching. Merry |

If you found my birth you'd have to go back 15 years to find my parents' marriage! I think they thought they'd got away with it! Sheila |

I had a birth in 1940 and had to go back to 1928 to find the marriage I was very surprised when I finally found it, but you just have to keep searching sometimes |

How many years back do you think I should look for a marriage. I have a birth in Nov 1943 of a McCormack, mothers name Sandles.(eldest child). I have looked back from 1943-1929 for a Mccormack/Mccormick/Sandles marriage - how far back do you think I have to go to find a marriage or do you think the child was just registered in the name McCormack? |
