my dad was born in 1937 cyril guess 1900-1917 possibly born no worries, i seem to be confusing this thread as not got many details. |

Eleanor, there is no other way on Ancestry (or 1837) than checking quarter by quarter for each year Sam |

Eleanor - yes, there are some records on FreeBMD after 1914, but the vast majority of them are before 1914. They are concentrating on the earlier years at the moment. But deaths are not being left till last. For anything after about 1911 you usually do have to trawl through the quarters on ancestry or wherever, but after 1984 the index is fully computerised. this is crazy i know, he is or was my grandfather on dads side, family is never ever spoken about by father so i have no details of his birth. only found his name last week and im 40. sad state of affairs |

Anyone can do this search for free on Ancestry at the moment When was he born? |

It isn't difficult but you have to check every quarter of every year from 1963 until you find him so it could be a long search I'm afraid. Even people with an Ancestry subscription (me included) would be unwilling to do it as it could potentially mean searching about 30 years and that would take hours and you can do it yourself without subscribing. You won't find it on FreeBMD as that site only has coverage upto c1914. You need to search the GRO indexes which you can do for free on Ancestry. Sam x |

hi , can anyone look up my grandfathers death please, i am very stuck on finding it just dont seem to be getting anywhere at all. CYRIL NORMAN NEWTON IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AFTER 1963 LIVED IN SCARBOROUGH. Never knew it would be so hard to do, new at this and totally brain dead??? THANK YOU |
