Maybe Florence began life as Edith, but didn't like it and changed her name. Is there anything else which makes you believe there were twins - time of birth on the cert for instance? Liz

If you have a birth certificate, is there a time of birth in the date and place of birth column? This can sometimes be an indication that the person is one of twins.

Do not know a lot about them I also give it a thought that she had changed her name but Florance was always known has Florance Jane dob 13/10/1877 Baptism 26/11/1877 no birth time was given Found Edith at the local L D S

Do you have both baptisms same day, same church? Is the surname common? Are there other children with same parents' names who you KNOW aren't your family? nell

Only have baptism for Florance Did not know there was a Edith until I went through the index list of Boyle names both Florance and Edith have same d o b October 1877 and parentsand lived in Whitehall Street Clones

Do you get parents' full names in the index, and does the date refer to date of birth, or registration? nell

Could it be that they registered her as Edith but then changed her name to Florence when she was baptised? Was the date of registration before the date of baptism? Kate.

AFTER LOOKING THE INDEX I LOOKED UP THE BIRTH CERTS BOTH PARANTS ARE JOHN WILLIAM BOYLE AND JANE ANNE BOYLE EDITH WAS BORN 13 OCTOBER 1877 AS WAS FLORANCE JANE AITHOUGH I HAVE A BAPTIM FOR FLORANE JANE I CANNOT FIND A BIRTH CERT FOR HER OR HER HUSBAND(BUT THAT IS ANOTHER STORY) HAVE GOT A BIRTH CERT FOR EDITH BUT NO BAPTISM DID NOT THERE WAS A EDITH UNTIL LAST WEEK EDITH WAS REGISTERED ON THE 6 NOVEMBER 1877 fLORANCE WAS BAPTISED 26 NOV 1877

Well, then, this is what I think happened: a baby girl was born 13th October (just the one!). Registered as Edith 6th November Baptised as Florence 26th November - for whatever reason, she was given a different name when she was baptised from the name she had been registered under. Perhaps her parents couldn't agree on her name, or perhaps somebody else persuaded them to change it? It seems unlikely they would have twins and register one but baptise the other!!! Kate.
