Snowdrop There are some very old Holdens in Chaigley(1300s to 1600s) - look on A2A. If you can sort them out, please let me know, they are beyond me! LOL Olde Crone

Hi Merry Sorry, I occasionally leave the puter for five minutes! Go to the home page: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ Where it says 'search this site' just type in Ralph Holden - or whatever slightly unusual name you are interested in. Not only do you get the Catalogue, but you also get A2A and Documents Online. As time goes on, I think they will be adding more databases. The info is arranged quite differently to either the Catalogue or A2A and I've found it really useful where documents are scattered in lots of places I wouldn't have thought to have looked.

Oh come on.....someone tell me what you are doing?????? I can't see any difference, so must be putting the name in the wrong place? Merry

I think we should be setting up a Holden circle - my lot come from Aighton Bailey and Chaigley (more commonly known as Hurst Green in Lancashire) Will any of our paths ever meet I wonder? Snowdrops

Phoenix Thanks very much for that - I've been, I've looked and it was remarkably painless! I like the new layout of the Site, its much more user-friendly. However, a bit disappointed that they have not completely obliterated the problem of searching 'Holden' - it still brings up a few 'courts holden in september' but thankfully seems to have got rid of everyone 'holding' a dog or a bunch of flowers, or a party etc. Also, did notice that the stuff which has been transferred from A2A is not the whole document which you can (mostly) see on A2A, merely an enticing taster. (Just realised how daft I am, it DOES say A2A docs are not available on TNA!!!!) Its obviously not complete yet, but there is stuff on there I hadnt seen and I shall go back and have a good rummage through all the Holdens - see you next year sometime! Olde Crone

Oooh, Phoenix, you gave me ever such a turn! I will go and look at Ralphie, I'm rather fond of the old boy, particularly love his habit of writing EVERYTHING down and preserving it for posterity! (I'm terrified of the TNA, but will bravely gird my loins) Olde Crone

Go to the National Archives website and type Ralph Holden into site search. I know you'll have most of the refs and some will be dross, but what do you think of the way the info is displayed?
