I've googled and it appears to be a debtor's prison. Since the head of the household I am looking for was in Parkhurst Prison in 1871 I am thinking its quite likely they are here - but I don't think I will be able to find them! nell |

Its a shame the old bailey site doesnt go up to the 1860's? Youde probably find them on there. Just for ref: Debtors Prison, Whitecross Street, Cripplegate, EAST LONDON [1861] 'ST. LUKE'S OLD STREET, a parish in the Finsbury division of the hundred of Ossulstone, county Middlesex, 1 mile N. of St. Paul's. It was anciently part of St. Giles's, Cripplegate, and is now included within the metropolitan borough of Finsbury, containing Finsbury, Bartholomew, and King squares, the New Artillery Grounds, Bonhill Fields Cemetery, the City Basin of the Regent's Canal, and the liberties of the City-road, E. and W. Finsbury, Goldenlane, Old-street, and <<<<Whitecross-street<<<<. See Finsbury and London. |

Ann Yes, you've got genealogitis. It's not serious or life-threatening, though it can be debilitating. I blame it on all these blinky relatives who keep repeating names over the generations, and altering their ages etc. Never mind, I appreciate your help!!! nell |
