I can`t trace my grt, uncles after 1901. No marriage or death certs. One was at my grandfathers wedding in 1914 ortherewise they have vanished. I`ve spent hours trawling ancestry,1837 and wgc,no luck. Anyone got any bright ideas please? Born 1879 &1881 so they must be the oldest batchelors on the planet.

You could try trade directories, see if they are listed there. www(.)historicaldirectories(.)org remove brackets has loads but I think they generally only go upto around 1910,so if you are in the area they disappeared from check at your central library/archives or ask for someone to look up for you, they're easy to check. They might be on the electoral registers too (found at the same places as directories) you might even get a wife's name if they are listed on there. Good Luck

Are you sure you haven't missed them? Did they have unusual names? Sam

Name was Whiteway not all that common, and first names not all that usual, Harold Llewellyn & Sidney Herbert. Thanks for interest. Sylvia.

You're welcome So you've looked at marriages/deaths for both, up until when?

Perhaps they emigrated? Or moved to Scotland, or Ireland? Don't forget to try Sydney as a variation on Sidney. Kate.

I think I will go back to trawling on 1837. Ancestry seem to mess you around and won`t give you an exact search without the date! If I knew the date I wouldn`t be looking! Up date you all if I have any luck.

Are you actually checking ''England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1837-1983 (Beta)'' There is no other way for BMD's after 1910ish, that's what we all do, make an educated guess at the years and start trawling, you should find them in the end. Regards Sam
