www.freebmd.org - it's not complete but it's very useful !! OR you can look at the BMD index on Ancestry ( I think you have to register but the index and 1881 census are free )...again the transciptions aren't complete....but you can also search the BETA version images for all years ! http://www.ancestry(.)co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8965 delete the brackets.......this is the link for the BETA images on ancestry........it's a bit time consuming but might be worth looking for a possible 2nd marriage for Jane... |

Couldn't find any clues in 1881.... I did find a possible MC in 1883 between a Jane platt and a James Kirby..... But this is all Maybes and very big maybes at that so I would get Alberts BC to confirm for sure who his parents were ( hopefully )...you wouldn't want to trace the wrong family ! Esta |

Have you tried to find Jane in 1881 ? This might hold some clues. Just a thought ... Paul |

Do you know for sure that his mother's name was Jane? If not, wait until you have the birth certificate then we can look again. If Jane was the mother, she could have married and the new husband's name could be 'hiding' your boys. |

I can find no trace of them in 1901....sorry She could have remarried by 1901 and they could all have a different surname ! You say you know there are other siblings / sisters..........do you know any names ?? |

Hi Esta, The family that you mentioned last (father,s name also Albert Kirby), is not the right one. But thank you all for pointing out that JANE was the head of house - I am new and didn't spot that! I shall apply for Alberts birt cert. ASAP. Given that anything could have happened to Jane in the next ten years ( and that you helpful lot are not miracle workers!) what is your next suggestion for plotting the path of Jane and her boys? I've had a look at the image for the head of household. It definitely says JANE. Her age is also in the female column. She is unmarried. If you got the birth cert for Albert it might have a father listed on it, then again maybe not. Its odd that Jane has no occupation, she must have lived on something. I'll have a look ofr her on 1901. nell |

My maternal g.father was Albert William Kirby b. 4th July 1890, England - died 1964 England. I found him on the 1891 census, living with father James Kirby (although the S on the end of James was almost not there and no occupation stated), brother Charles 4yrs ( a confirmed name for a brother) and second brother Thomas aged 3, at 17, Hinton Road, near Loughborough Junction, Brixton, London in the Civil Parish of Lambeth. Mum was not mentioned, (out at midnight with a one year old? In hospiatal? dead? etc) So not even a first name to go on. I know that there were other siblings including sisters so searched the 1901 census to try to find their next step and see if mum turns up again. I wondered if 'Jame' (as it appears) could even be 'Jane'. There is a comment in the Condition as to Marriage colomn that I do not understand. However, I cannot find a trace of the family in the 1901. Any thoughts, hints, clues? Any help will be much appreciated. Kind regards Linda |
