I am trying to find an Hannah Tennant who married in 1829 George Chantler at St Marys Abchurch, London. Hannah was born abt 1811 and died in 1844. Unfortunately where she was born in not stated in the 1841 census - so how do I find her parents or where do I go from here. Many thanks Lin

Lin, sorry cant help you, but I thought Id reply to bump you up to the top. Could you get one of the kids birth certs - may be that would give clues. Its rotten isnt it, when everything falls outside the golden period of Sept 1837 on.

Lin Where did you find the info for the marriage - were there any other clues there - it also might be worth obtaining a copy of Hannah's death cert - might find a few clues. Good luck Looby

Hello, I had a similar problem. Didn't know whereabouts my great great grandfather was born (apart from Norfolk). However, I belong to the Norfolk Family History Society and contacted other members researching the same surname and someone had come across my great great grandfather's baptism details. This supplied me with his parents - worth considering? Cheers, Horatia

It's just that St Mary Abchurch isn't. Ken Milton is doing look ups for surname origins. It's worth asking him where the surname originates. There is no guarantee that your Hannah was baptised there, but it's worth looking to see what online records are around for the area. Also worth getting a copy of the marriage entry for the witness names.

Use this link (removing the brackets) to find out about churches in Victorian London http://www.gendocs.demon(.)co.uk/city-ch.html Records for St Mary Abchurch are in Guildhall Library, according to the link.

As you know which parish the marriage was in, could you ask the local records office to look at the entry for you to see if there was any more information? I did this with a marriage from 1779 that I found on the IGI. As the marriage records were on printed forms by that time, the register should say which parishes the couple were from.
