hello, I am trying to find who contributed information on the famly search website, I have been to the FHC in Nottingham, where a very helpful man, located my ancestor on CD, and it had the name of the contributor, he told me that if I contacted Salt Lake City they may give me the contact details of this person. I contacted them by e-mail, and they replied immediately. But I can't understand their instructions! I have already e-mailed them twice, and still can't find it. the instructions are On the desktop double click the Pedigree Resource File icon. Click Pedigrees When the index of the names comes up, click view on the menu bar, and click submissions. A list of submitters will appear, when you highlight the submitters name, the submitters address will appear. Has anyone tried this before? or could anybody offer any help? Thanks in advance to all who try to help. xxx

Looking at the site, and the instructions you have been given, it sounds as if you have to have the cd loaded to get the info you want. Have you got the cd, or do you have to go back to the library to try this out?

Hi What they mean is if you go to the Main Page for searches on LDS and click PEDIGREE RESOURCE FILE on left side of page. then put in your details for the person you want. Then you will get list of All people with that name.. When you find yours...click on the name on the list and when the page appears if you scroll down you should see SUBMITTER...It will either tell you there or look across to right side of page and it will say DETAILS click that and you will see their contact details.... Hope that makes more sence Lesley :~)

Could you give me the name of the ancestor you found? Sometimes you can find the contributor by clicking on the reference number at the bottom of the page. Depends how the information was given. I can try and look for you.

Hi, I did e-mail to find out whether I could access it from their web site or if I needed to go back to FHC, and they replied that it was on www.familysearch.org, the relative I am looking for is Tamer (or Tamar( Whelband, and the contributor was Samuel Smedley, Thanks xx

I can't see the details on the website at all for the submitter. I think you must need the CD.

Having followed Lesley's advice, most of those I've looked at do give their addresses, but there appear to be a few people who do not. Presumably in those instances they are keeping a bit of anonymity - though they may well show on other websites.

On a similar theme within Family Search, I have found a full family listed with parents, siblings, bmd dates and all kinds of things as an IGI entry. The record says it was submitted by a member of the LDS church, but no other info is given. I have searched these names in the Pedigree Resouse File but they don't show up there. How can I find out who submitted them? Thanks, Brenda

The record often shows the name of the individual and his or her relationship to a descendant, shown as the heir, family representative, or relative. The original records are not indexed, and you may have to look at the film frame-by-frame to find the information you want. A family group record for this couple may be in the Family Group Record Collection; Archive Section. (See the Family History Library Catalog for the film number.) These records are alphabetical by name of the father or husband. Hi Brenda, I'm having the same problem, can find info on the IGI. The CD at the FHC, told me the submitter, but there are no ancestors listed on the Pedigree Resource File! I will e-mail Salt Lake City again, and will let you know what happens. Judith xx

Hi Lesley, have found these details on IGI, but not on Pedigree Resource File, although the CD that the gentleman used at the FHC had the submitter as Samuel Smedley, I think I may have to go back and look as his details! thanks for your help, Judith xx
