O M G, just gone to the GRO site to order the death cert and birth cert that Brenda kindly found and it says that due to high volumes of requests it could be the end of May that I get them!! Just great - I'll have to keep my name as Brick Wall until then Joanne

Brenda that could be him for the death but not the birth as I'm sure that would be Henry as it is on the census records ( the same as his fathers) He did call himself Harry in later life - sons's birth cert in 1914 and just checked son's marriage cert and he also has his name as Harry, and why did I not look before it is dated 1934 so he was alive then. I think Brenda may have found him - will send for the cert and if it is him his wife will be Annie Elizabeth. Many thanks Joanne

I've looked at deaths in 1932, 1933 and 1934 and there isn't a Henry or Harry Fellows registered in Birmingham in those years. Kath. x

Oh no, I just looked on Ancestry and put in the year 1933 and thought I would look 3 years either side and what a lot it brought up!! I even know where he is buried so could get the date from the headstone if the grave yard had been weeded in the last 60 years - too overgrown to search and not a nice place to go even when your with a friend Will sit and look and keep my fingers crossed that I can find him one way or another Joanne

Brick The census taker did not always ask for middle names sometimes you get them sometimes you don't. Do you have a marriage cert of his if he got married? Have you looked for his other siblings birth refs? Zoe

He was just plain old Henry Fellows vborn 1874/75 according to census records, I know he died in Sheffield and at a football match, he had a heart attack whilst watching that awful team in Sheffield that has just won promotion to the premiership - we don't use their name in our house!!! Joanne

Mmmmm. I hate ancestry for looking for deaths in the mid 1900's, is it just me or does everyone else sit searching through pages and pages? Tell me if there is a quicker way for me to search and I'll be off like a flash

You need to look in the 1933 (and adjacent years) death indexes. They are free on www.ancestry*co.uk - replace * with . BUT birth dates weren't put on death certs until 1969 (and I have some that are wrong anyway!!) Have you tried finding him on the census? nell

Great great grandfather born 1874/75 Birmingham - Henry Fellows, sometimes called Harry Have not been able to find his DOB even with some very kind people on these boards trying to help. I now know from a cousin of my Mum's that g/g/grandad Henry Fellows died in Sheffield approx 1933 ( when his own son who was born 1920 was roughly 13) Need to find death reg and then hope that if I send for the cert I can roughly find a better idea of where to look to then get his birth cert Joanne
