I recieved my Nans Birth certificate this morning and I was hoping to find out my Great Nans dob. Above my great nans name as the infromant in brackets it looks like 41 could this be her age?

You can't find out the DOB of the parent on a birth certificate. Give me the details and I will see if i can find someone to narrow down a search for the person Steve

English/Welsh birth certs give the DOB only of the person whose birth is being recorded. Reg

Assuming you are in England, birth certificates only give the date of birth of the child. Their is usually no information at all regarding the dob or age of the mother or father. I would think it fairly unlikely that you have the age but I suppose anything is possible. Sam x

Numbers in brackets usually refer to corrections made on the cert - is there a corresponding 41 in the margin?

I fail to see why you would expect to find your great nans date of birth on your nans birth cert. Take a look at your own birth cert. It only has your date of birth, no one elses. Margaret

Thanks for all the replies, I'm new at this so you'll have to bear with me. My Great nans name is Lillian May Bassett born 1890 onwards, in Kent. She married George Vallins in 1915 my Nan Ada Ellen Vallins was born on 14th July the same year.

Barbara You need to look for her on the 1901 census. When you have her approx year of birth and place you can then search for her birth cert and order that. Margaret

There is a corresponding 41 in the column.

Barbara The original certificate entry has been amended. The number next to your gt nan's name indicates that her name is what has been amended. The number refers to the number of amendments in the register. nell

Thank you, how did you find this info? Did you put in her name and search the 1901 census.

Barbara No. I can't find her in 1901. I got the 1891 info and her birth ref from Ancestry. nell
