I'm looking for this family in 1841. 1851 Llangynwyd Cwmdu Glamorgan Reg district: Bridgend Sub-reg district: Maesteg Garnlwyd Upper Jenkin Evan abt 1805 Wick, Glam, 46 Head labourer (ironworks) Mary Evan abt 1802 Lanow, Carmarthenshire, Wife 49 Edward Evan abt 1838 Monknash, Glamorgan, Son 13 miner John Evan abt 1841 Monknash, Glamorgan, Son 10 William Evan abt 1842 Monknash, Glamorgan, Son 9 Obviously William wouldn't have been born, and possibly not John either. I know that Jenkin and Mary married in 1836 in Marcross, Glamorgan. As all the children were born Monknash I thought they must be there in 1841. Couldn't find them doing a name search, so went through enumeration districts. Ancestry have Monk Nash - only 3 pages, been through them all, no sign! Any ideas? |

Karen No - off to do that now. Louise Theoretically, Edward should be born in Glamorgan, but I will check that out. Mary is a bit of a mystery as in later censuses she says she is born in Llanelli. nell |

Louise Wrong Edward:-( but on the same page there is an Ann Mandry, which I think helps confirm my Mary Mandery was from Llanelli, so thanks for that. nell |

Karen Only 2 pages for Marcross, and I found another Mandery on them, so its not entirely wasted! nell |

Well knock me down with a feather! I thought I'd check Jenkin's hometown, Wick. 8 pages this time, nothing. But then I thought I wasn't sure where Wick was, so got onto streetmap uk and guess what!!! There's a Llandow just up the road from Wick and both are very close to Marcross & Monknash. Why on earth Mary kept saying she was born in Carmarthenshire I don't know! Now its even more confusing. 1851 she says Llanow, Carmarthenshire and after that its Llanelly, Carmarthenshire. Doh! Blinky rellies! nell |

Paul Thank you for that. I know that the family ended up in Maesteg, near Bridgend. Now I am wondering if there were two different Marys? Blinky rellies! Still, there;s a son born in 1843 in Monknash, which is why I expected the family to still be there in 1841. Hey ho. nell |

hi nell i know what you mean, received birth cert on thursday for hubbys grandad he was born in pontypool 1900, only have fathers name and occupation on it as grandads mother was the informant and she died either later in 1900 or early 1901 as grandad went to live with his grandmother ( his mums mum) i searched for his father Hugh Evans in 1901 but he wasnt at the address i had on the birth cert, i cant look him up on any census as i dont know where he was born, i did find a marriage index for may and hugh in 1899 bedwelty so will have to send for that and hope the occupation matches. he was a dramatic artiste ( on birth cert) |
