Hi all I have been trying to find out about my great grandparents, I have a marriage cert for my for Arthur Charles Thomas and a Hettie Anders which i believe to be my rellies, However! On the gravestone of Arthur his wife is Esther not Hettie. I have searched but i cant find any birth for Esther or Hettie Anders. I am just going around in circles and any tips on this would be greatfully accepted!! Thanks Mand x

Hettie is a pet name for Esther. Where have you looked for the birth? Is it possible she was married before? Whenabouts are we talking? nell

I have looked on census reports etc... Im not too sure if she could have been married before but im sure anything is possible!! She was born in1884 in St.Helens or Liverpool and married Arthur in 1903. Mand

Hi Mand - that's off Ancestry and the birth deaths & marriages are free to search. Will have a look at the census returns for you.

If you have her marriage certificate, then it should be easy to work out if she was married before - does it say 'spinster' or 'widow'? Also, does it give her father's name and occupation, plus her (Hettie or Esther)'s address? If so, you can use these to try to find her family on the 1901 and 1891 censuses, which should give her birthplace. Also, does the marriage certificate give her age? If so, you should be able to work out roughly when she was born. Kate.

Mand What was her father's name on the marriage certificate?

She was a spinster born in 1884 her father was joseph anders who was a glass blower. She was 19 when she got married unfortunately i cant tell what the address is maybe 56 Bremner st. Liverpool. Can you search an address on ancestry?

There's an Esther Anders born St Helens aged 18 at 21 Westfield Street St Helens but she's in service. Can't find her in 1891 though - there's one aged 11 in service and born St Helens but not found a Joseph Anders with a daughter Esther sorry.

If I were you I'd try ordering the birth certificate closest to age you have for her & put father's name in as reference check. Good luck:)
