Jean If you launch your browser a second time, you can have more than one window open. This means that you can flick from familysearch to Ancestry etc without losing your place. |

to copy all you do is Right click your mouse, run the pointer over the text you want, it turns blue then left click and select copy, then come to this site left click mouse and paste, but like i said it is against the copyrigh laws to copy from one site to another, you are ok if you type out the info making it your own, this site is the only one that allows people to break the law, and in theory could be sued for several thousand pounds for doing it if Ancestry decide to enforce there copyright laws |

I've been trying to copy and paste Gary but I can't do it as I don't seem to be able to have the two pages open at the same time. When I go on to Ancestry, all that happens is my Genealogy page changes to Ancestry and vice versa, how do they keep the two pages open. I've tried taking one down to the toolbar but it still just changes |

Jean you are not, it is Illegal to copy and paste info from Ancestry web site and paste it in another, this is the only site of this type you gan get away with it, other sites will deleate it straight away i always type out the info like this for example 1901 census. RG13/3232. Address: Prospect Street, Alfreton, Derbyshire. Head: Joseph Walker, 65, Life Insurance Agent, Nottinghamshire, Bullwell, Married. Wife: Mary Walker, 62, Nottinghamshire, Lowdham, Married. Son: Frank William Walker, 15, Stationary Engine Foreman (Colliery), London. i think it looks so much better than all the View Record and people in no order, that you get from people that copy and paste just to be the first to reply |

I didn't start using these boards until I'd been in the family research game for over a year. Big mistake. For newcomers it must be brilliant. The most interesting queries are from people who have got a bit of experience but lack specialist knowledge. I love the challenge of finding tricky answers so it doesn't matter if it's my own line or somebody else's. I have to confess though i get a little bored with requests from people who could easily answer their questions by looking up census or BDM records. On the other hand if somebody is genuinely stumped and we can overcome a 'brick wall' with a bit of lateral thinking, then we all get a great sense of achievement. |

Couldn't agree more with the last post. While doing a census lookup for somebody on Friday i found a rellie i have spent months searching the census for,and two more in the same place on the next image from another line. Needless to say i didn't post a reply,i was too busy. Glen |

I reckon that every time you do a look-up for someone, you're honing your searching skills, even if you don't get there first. (Sometimes I've arrived back too late with the answer - but then I might have stopped to try to make it easier to read by weeding out unwanted bits from the copy-&-paste.) One day it might mean you find something of your own for which you'd have had to ask for help... Christine |
