on the 1841 census her age is down in the female column - so I'm guessing it must be a girls name. |

or it could be a mistranscription when the enumerator was writing everything up. (There is a Pamela Burton who is a servant in 1851) |

The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date. |

thanks Debra at least it could be a name in it's own right. how funny that the 3 you found are all from the area I am looking in. Tom thanks could be either way as I haven't looked for her in any other census yet. (been tracing her mother only) Karenx |

Karen, You're really lucky with the actual ages given on the census )usually rounded to th nearest 5), also, whith mother's maiden name given in the baptism. When looking for a baptism of Phoebe Hartill in 1813 as it says from the census there is one, and the same for the husband. |

I could kiss you both I know the family were very particular about things being,'just so' but they must of had a really nice enumerator too keep dates right my Uncle has been following this lot for 15 yrs (on foot & by hand)& passed the tree on to me after my Dad died just over 2 yrs ago. I am so pleased with your assistance to have found a few things to pass back on to help him out.( he's getting older & i'm stuck overseas) best regards Karen |

A good idea is always to write the name out in cursive or copperplate style, and squint.........you will see how pamela has been interpreted as pameda......the 'el ' will look like 'd'. a very extreme example was Lewis>>>>Severio S=L e =e ve= w (with a loop) r = i io= s (with a flourish ) |
