Had to get the London A-Z out this time and guess what?! Clerkenwell Road goes past the Society Of Genealogists (!!!) and down Old St to St Lukes (!!!!!!!!!). Just North of this by less than a mile is Islington - this looks very good to me indeed ! Isn't it lovely when it all starts to slot together like that :-)))

Clerkenwell is close to Islington, I think?

Hi heidi just noticed a fly in the ointment, I haven't got the right death for Frederick, the one I have is too late(well it was late!). I'll have another look.Sorry about that. there is this one? FreeBMD Death Index: 1837-1983 Record about Frederick Wade Name: Frederick Wade Year of Registration: 1858 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Clerkenwell County: London, Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 305 (click to see others on page)

Blimey you've been busy! And I'd already gone to bed - SORRY !!! It had been a long day as I'd been working. Now, I've got out my a-z which shows that Ricknall (Harriett's birth place) (probably now called Rickinghall Superior) is only 2 miles from Redgrave (1861 census). Also 1861 detail says Harriett born in Bottlesdale, which is halfway between the two places by road. The fact that Frederick/William's father was also called the same fits as they keep using this for the first born son down the generations. It's quite tragic that he died aged only 32 though, very young indeed. And then for Harriett to have to go off and be a servant and leave her son with her grandparents...that must have been a tough life. Is there any chance you could do me one last favour please? Where was the William/Frederick who married Harriett in 1852 in the 1851 census? Was he still living with his grandparents? And what did he do for a living? I'm wondering how far back the 'showman' goes? Thanks very much for all your help, especially considering I had so little info to start with! Heidi

oooh Teresa - St Lukes is where his future first wife was born. I wonder? But I'm confused by him being a 'son' to a couple with completely different surnames - any ideas?

Hi Paul, Well the date and place is right though. Quite a move from Cornwall to Stepney though? I'd rather go the other way! I've just rechecked the data I have, and he's using William Frederick in 1891 and Frederick William in 1901. Also he's called his eldest son from his first marriage William Frederick and then his eldest from his second marriage Frederick William E. Perhaps one of these two is his father's name ?
