Hi, I have a Charles Noall born (according to dates on his marriage certificate) in 1858. I really want to order his birth certificate, however I cant find any births for a Charles Noall in this year. Have checked both Ancestry and Free BMD. If it hasnt yet been transcribed where do I go from here? Can anyone help please? Many thanks Bex.

There's no guarantee that the birth was registered..........it wasn't compulsory until 1875. Reg

Hi, Many thanks for your replies. Think that must be the family. I have his father as James Noall on the marriage certificate, and a Grace W Noall was a witness. That would tie in very nicely :) Shame about not being able to find his birth for confirmation of his mother's maiden name. Thank you very much for all your help Bex

Marriage and Census ages are unreliable. How about this birth entry? NOALL Charles, 1855 Sept. quarter, Penzance. 5c, 286. This fits the Census entry Reg found for you. Jennifer

If you're dealing with Cornish records there's a great deal of stuff online. Cornwall FHS, plus the census transcriptions, Cornwall Records Office and more. Christine

Wow, many many thanks for all the help and info. Soz, I've only just got back in. Thank you Jennifer for that birth record, I couldnt find it anywhere! Will order that certificate now. And thank you Jim, yep that is him with his wife and sons. Thank you Reg for all that info. It certainly looks like James Noall and Grace Welch would be Charles' parents. A Grace Welch Noall (his sister going by the census info) was one of the witnesses at Charles' wedding :) Have had a lot of trouble because Charles Noall married a Rebecca Williams Noall. Trying to separate the Noalls has been a nightmare. Thank you all again for all your help. Luv Bex

And thank you Christine, Ive just been on the Cornish sites again and found 3 different baptisms for Suky Noall, one of whom may have been Charles' auntie (spelt as Suckey Noall). And thank you Glen Turnip in Tinsel Knickers, great name :) Bex
