Well, Gerris right - for £55 for a year you have access to every census for 1841-1861 for the UK - probably a much better bet. Plus all the births deaths and marriages and tons of other stuff. Meanwhile to (hopefully) show you how brilliant it is - who are you looking for?

Joyce, the last census to be released was for 1901 and I can see that you are looking for people after that date. Are you trying to confirm their births, marriages ?? in which case you require Birth or marriage certificates which can be found online but may mean that you will have to trawl through many pages to find these people in particular. FreeBMD or Ancestry have events up to about 1912 otherwise you will have to go to 1837online. I have looked for Isaac ClarkS, Clark, ClarkE for few years around 1902 and (open to correction) cannot trace a birth in the Portsmouth area.

Joyce You don't need a census (for any year) to find births, marriages and deaths. You need to access the free bmd's on Ancestry. You have to register with the site, but there is no charge for the info you want. It is a case of ploughing through the images, quarter by quarter, and hoping that you find the relevant entries. If you can give us the married surname of Elizabeth Roberts, her death will be easily found. Reg

To discover whether they had children, you will have to search the birth records, quarter by quarter, from the time of their marriage until either Winifred died, or it became genetically improbable that she could give birth. Good luck Reg
