How confident are you a] that they got married at all? and b] that any marriage date was just then? There are lots of tales of people marrying long after all the children were born; or never actually marrying, just the woman taking the man's name. One of my paternal ancestors was buried as Mrs Stratford ''properly called Gardner''. The history suggests she ''married'' her late elder sister's husband - but wouldn't have been able, according to law, to do so at that time. Christine

The Ancestry database is a copy of the FReeBMD database. Ancestry's search is faster, generally, and has acquired some useful extra facilities lately, but the database may not be up-to-date if FreeBMD has been updated recently. And there's always the ''searchable'' full set of GRO index pages, if you don't mind trawling, or if you're looking for events after about 1910. They're free at the moment - while in ''beta''/test mode. Chrisitne
