HI, A friend of mine says she's found a place called 'Thull Gaut Inn, on Lawnswood Road, Wordsley, (then Staffordshire) on a 1901 map. |

Is she sure that that is what is written on the map? |

There doesn't appear to be an inn on Lawnswood Road in 1901 census. |

Thank you all for your replies, Rachel (my friend) was intrigued by the name as we can't seem to find out if it means anything. the closest I could fnd was reference to an indian railway called thull Gaunt and thought maybe it was somethiing to do with the Stourbridge railway lines through the area. |

In the 1891 census can you tell which way the enumerator walked please? are there any other roads named nearby? |

I've found a bit more, in 1883 Joseph Partridge and Thomas roberts filed for bankrupcy from the Thull Ghaut Inn, Lawneswood Road. |

I have just had a look at that census for Josep[h Partridge and noticed that there are occupations of Flint Glass Makers. The name of the inn does look like Thul Glaunt. Could this have been a local name for a Flint Glass??????? |

Thanks Allotment, I did see this which led me to thinking the indian railway might have something to do with the name...not having seen the map myself I don't know where any railway lines sat in 1901. There's definitely small hillocks and dips around the area as it was all built on coal mines. |
