I was interested in exactly where in Portree psh they were. One can check the Hebrides map and see where Portree Psh is at: http://www.electricscotland.com/history/gazetteer/
I looked up the 2 above censuses again on FreeCEN http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl Here I can easily page to neighbour h/hs (in census books). I went in each direction until I got a change of addy.

I figure this ED was on the Island of Raasay, which lies 4km off the mouth of Loch Portree. Raasay is abt 4km x 20km.
There is a listing of MIs at Kilmoluag graveyard at: http://her.highland.gov.uk/hbsmrgatewayhighland/DataFiles/LibraryLinkFiles/9981.pdf You might also check out http://her.highland.gov.uk/simplesearch.aspx
Go to http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ and look up 159300,836050 - you will have to zoom out a step or two Here's a pic at that spot looking WSW http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2465951
Although there's nothing on the map now, a look up of 159800,837300 at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html This shows Gualann na Leac (Shoulder of Leac, I think) and An Leac (NB An=The). This is an 1879 map, and there's nothing showing by then but the names. (The grid ref is where the track turns into a path on the modern map.) Another km to NW is Hallaig, referred to in pic caption.
The 1841 FreeCEN count for ED's 10 & 11 (i.e., Raasay) is 585. The 1851 FreeCEN count for ED's 11 & 12 (i.e., Raasay) is 440. So 25% of popn have left. Groome's Gazetteer say the 1861 popn is 380, so another reduction by 15%.
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/180041
I didn't see any parish records for them. I wondered why, and concluded they didn't attend the CofS kirk in Portree.
The modern map shows two churches (as well as the ruined chapel) at: 155200,836100 and 155600,836300
Looking at http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NG5536/ we see the first grid ref is Raasay Free Presbyterian Church, but the building dates to 1929. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2459620
The other is Raasay Free Church / Eaglais Shaor Ratharsair The Free Church of Scotland is the principal denomination on the island. The white harled kirk was erected around 1850, with wooden tracery in the windows and a simple bellcote on the gable. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2395533
So the dates don't help us out.
Re OS grid refs - the 1st # is the easting, the second is the northing. a 6 digit # gives location to nearest metre. The blue grid lines on an OS map are 1km apart. Geograph uses a slightly different system - it takes, say, 159300,836050 and replaces the pair of leading digits 1xxxxx,8yyyyy by a magic pair of letters NG here, and writes it as NG5930036050 to nearest metre, or NG5936 to nearest km.
