Many thanks for your much appreciated research - you have uncovered a lot in a short space of time ! I had found out similar information but did not know the name of the ship they travelled on to South Africa or the last address in England - had not realised that this info was on the departure record ! You refer to Gertrude May Haferkorn, mum to Pamela Denise Joynes and note a mis-match in ages. This conundrum is where we began 3 years ago because my wife is the daughter of Gertrude May Haferkorn (although spelt with a c rather than a k ) and we have found out that Gertrude May was actually named after her aunty who was born a few years earlier - this is the one who travelled to Cape Town. So from a mystery of having two identical names we have slowly began to unravel the Haferkorn family ... We are trying to trace Pamela Denise Joynes, if still alive and probably new married name, because we have photos, etc and lovely stories about her mum that will be lost as time goes on and should be with her family. i am trying to find a Pamela Denise Joynes born around 1943 in England who emigtareted as a child to Rhodesia and probablty then moved on to either Australia, New Zealand or possibly South Africa. She became an air stewardess. She probably maried and had children. Finding Pamela Denise will reumite a long lost friend Peter and unlock a mustery in her mum's Gertrude May Haferkorn's family.
