I don't think so as a few on my tree married for the 2nd time in their 1st married name (if that makes any sense!) |

To add, i have a 2nd marriage and for both marriages she used her maiden name, and i have both certificates, so it does follow that it never happened. |

I have several second marriages and the woman used her first married name - her father's name should be the same as her maiden name |

The indexes for marriages post 1911, sometimes show the female partner (when searched for from the male's ) as eg Joan Smith or Brown. Not having purchased one, presumably either Smith or Brown was her maiden name and the second her previous married name. |

a womans surname (from birth) can be different from her fathers if she were illigitimate! |

I reverted back to my maiden name before remarrying, but on my marriage certificate it states my maiden name followed by 'previously known as' then my first married name. A search of the records shows two entries, one in my maiden name and one in my first married name. |

just to make things even more complicated, if a second marriage ended in divorce, the woman's surname would be that of her first husband on the third marriage certificate! such was the case of my gt gt grandmother |

Anyone can revert back to maiden name for passport purposes by just sending divorce docs and birth cert. |
