i have been trying to trace children from the same parents
useing family search
when i find a child on family search i go to the bottom of the page click on the batch no do i have to put all the details it asks for or just the parents name with birth etc details ive put the name of the child found then the parents names & thats all the page then come up no results what am i doing wrong is this how you search for children of the same parents

It works better if you put in the parents names at the top of the search box and no other info it then finds all the children that have been listed for those parents. Don't put a country in just the parents names

so this is what i need to do
firstly find a child bottom of page batch no click on that
when the page comes up look to top for the search box {not useing the box ive been useing }click just the parents names nothing else

Both sites are still down.
My suggestion with the hugh wallis site is to practise looking for details you know already, for families that stay put!
I've found details of large families quite quickly.

When you click on a batch number another page comes up
Just enter a surname and you get all results for that name.
Do not enter anything else.
Now enter father's first name,in case he was married more than once.
Now add the mother's first name.
There could be more than one couple with the same names.

When you follow SatNav's instructions, you will have results with batch number starting with C...( for Christening )

Sometimes you can search for the same surname marriages in that parish by changing the C (only) to an ..M.

does anyone know if family search is down when they try it its been down all afternoon & still down now??

I've been using Family Search all afternoon on and of and haven't experienced any problems. I'm logged on to it now and it is working fine.

I think Shirley and SatNav have basically said the same thing.

Be cautious in putting in too much search criteria, as the results found have to match all the criteria, not just some of it. For example, sometimes only the father's name is recorded not the mothers (especially with older records) so putting in the mothers name will not return anything

Once I have a possible batch number entered, I start with the family surname, then if too many results add the father's christian name, then add the mother's christian name. This way I don't miss anything.
