Reading Your Family Tree magazine I have found that old newspapers are now online...

You can view free but to get the actual images it costs £6.99 for a 24 hour pass.

I have been searching all day and I have come up with numerous gems.

Many thanks Jim...I missed out on that one...still I wouldn't have found out if I hadn't had put this thread up lol.

Luckily I don't feel too miffed as I found an article about my husband's gt grandfather along with an interview he gave... complete with a pen drawing of him. Plus 7 other articles on him from 1887 to 1894 from papers all over the country. Along with all the other research I have done over the years I feel a book coming on lol.

I have just had a look but it looks like you have to pay to look at a full article it is showing you small bits but that is it, does any one know how to look without paying please

Sadly it is pay to view... however I have been unable to find the articles about my husband's gt grandfather anywhere else online so to me it was well worth the money. Have you tried contacting the library local in the area where you are looking....they may hold old newspapers.

The local library in the area where gt grandfather settled have very kindly sent me 2 more articles from the local papers one including a photo...I received them this morning...so I am one happy bunny : ))))))

I am nudging this thread because after watching WDYTYA tonight. My 3x gt grandfather was a miner and on his death cert it states that he was parylised for 5 years prior to his death. I thought perhaps I may find an article on the website about a possible mining accident etc.

I have found an article but not what I was expecting...however it does solve the mystery why he left my 3x gt grandmother and daughter to start a new life on the other side of the country!!

A lot of county libraries now offer this service free, either from the library on their computers, or, if you are lucky, from home using your library card number.

E.g. www.buckscc.gov.uk follow links through to libraries and online resources, also Kent and others.

I have had a look and it says that if you are a member of certain institutions you may be able to view free. It mentions education and advises you contact your library as some have paid for access and you can use their membership.

Hi all
You can view all of the 19th Century
British Library Newspapers from home using your library card number all for FREE.
Ask at the library - you can aloso access ANCESTRY for FREE.
Hope this saves the pennies!
